Dramatic Shifts in politics of South Asia , know here full detail |
In just a span of little over four years, the political landscape of South Asia has seen dramatic shifts.
Back in January 2021, most nations in the region had democratically elected governments, with countries like India, Nepal and Bangladesh functioning as republics, while Bhutan maintained stability as a constitutional monarchy.
Afghanistan was under a presidential republic, Myanmar had a civilian government, and Sri Lanka worked under a semi-presidential system.
Fast forward to September 2025... Afghanistan is now under the Talibani regime, with the previous democratic setup collapsing. Pakistan has shifted to a military regime after the fall of its democratically-elected government.
Most recently Nepal faced a fall of government, while Sri Lanka saw its previous government being replaced. Bangladesh has entered a period of instability under an interim authoritarian government after the collapse of democracy. Myanmar is in deep turmoil with military rule and a civil war following a coup.
Through all these changes, India continues to stand as a Democratic Republic and Bhutan remains steady as a Constitutional Monarchy, making them rare anchors of political stability in a region otherwise shaken by coups, regime changes and collapsing governments.
