Article 153 of the Indian Constitution establishes the office of the Governor for each State in India.

📜 Text of Article 153:

"There shall be a Governor for each State:
Provided that nothing in this article shall prevent the appointment of the same person as Governor for two or more States."

📌 Key Points of Article 153:

  1. Governor for Each State:

    • Every state in India shall have a Governor as its constitutional head.

  2. One Governor for Multiple States:

    • The same person can be appointed as Governor for two or more states.

    • This provision is often used for smaller northeastern states, such as Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, etc., where one Governor serves multiple states.

🧠 Importance of Article 153:

  • The Governor acts as the nominal head of the state, similar to how the President is the head at the Union level.

  • The real power lies with the Council of Ministers headed by the Chief Minister, but the Governor plays a key constitutional role.

  • It forms the basis for the executive structure at the State level.

🔍 Example:

  • As of recent years, individuals like B.D. Mishra or R.N. Ravi have been appointed as Governor for more than one state.
