Clause (1):
If the office of the President becomes vacant due to death, resignation, removal, or otherwise, the Vice-President shall act as President until a new President is elected and takes charge.
Clause (2):
If the President is unable to discharge his duties (due to illness, absence from India, etc.), the Vice-President shall discharge those functions until the President resumes office.
Clause (3):
When acting as or discharging the functions of the President, the Vice-President gets all powers and privileges of the President.
