  • Article 379 dealt with the transitional arrangements regarding the first President and Vice-President of India after the Constitution came into force on 26 January 1950.

  • The Governor-General of India (C. Rajagopalachari) would function as the President of India temporarily until the new President was elected.

  • Similarly, provisions were made for the first Vice-President.
